Position Scope:
Plant manager is responsible for managing the plant operations of a custom manufacturer of duct and acoustical products where the majority of manufacturing process being sheet metal fabrication along with welding, stamping, forming etc. The plant manager will respond to related production problems and pursue and implement remedies to such problems. Manages directly or through a matrix organization the activities of safety, quality, production, production planning, plant and production engineering, maintenance, human resources, Union negotiations and labor relations. Position will be responsible for overall safe and profitable performance of the manufacturing plant that depending upon time of the year has 50 to 75 personnel dependent on business needs.
Some of the specific responsibilities include:
- Production Planning: Review projects and jobs before they go into production to determine material and human resources needed to successfully execute the project. Monitor production schedule to ensure that the products are being produced in a timely manner to meet ship schedule, with the focus that the work is being done in a productive manner.
- Communication: This position will serve as the information conduit between the information sources (sales, DOP, engineering, scheduling) and the shop foreman/ department supervisors to produce the orders satisfactorily.
- Quality: Make sure department supervision is inspecting units thoroughly before they leave their work station to ensure a defect free product to the customer. Review internal quality reports and field service reports with the shop foreman and the department supervisors, and help formulate necessary steps to minimize errors.
- Employee Development: Training or making training available to employees, to make sure that Plant is retaining trained, skilled, qualified and disciplined workforce, who are adhering to company policies. Develop effective department supervision by working with the shop foreman.
- Proper staffing: Determine optimum staffing based on work load and take part in hiring plant personnel. Work with scheduling and management to proactively manage overtime and correctly identify potential capacity issues.
- Safety: Maintain a safe working environment in the manufacturing plant. Making sure department supervision is focused on safety and providing adequate safety training to the new hires. In the event of an accident, do a thorough accident investigation and take necessary steps to prevent unsafe work practices. Focus needs to be to proactively minimize accidents.
- Performance Metrics: Review performance metrics and performance with DOP on a daily, weekly, monthly basis. Plant manager will with department supervision and take necessary steps to improve performance. Plant manager owns this process.
- Plant Organization: Oversight and involvement to make sure that there is an organized workflow in the plant and that the SEMCO Manufacturing Management System, Quality Management System and 5S are implemented and adhered too daily.
Major Responsibilities:

3. Manage the facility to achieve the performance goals and objectives established by management.
4. Responsible for all assets of the company at the facility, both personnel and equipment.
5. Responsible for labor relations as well as Union negotiations.

3. Maintain and improve product quality.
4. Monitor, maintain and reduce product and facility costs.

6. Coordinate, manage, plan and make adjustments in production to meet customer commitments.
7. Maintain and improve corporate image in the community.
Description of Authority:
1. To make decisions regarding production which result in achieving the company sales and profit goals.
2. Direct the work force in a professional and responsible manner.
3. Hire, terminate, discipline, train and motivate personnel.
4. Implement production changes as required to meet corporate goals and objectives.
5. Purchase equipment, misc. product components in accordance with company guidelines and policy.
6. Implement fabrication changes to insure product quality acceptance.
7. Maintain and improve labor relations.
8. Authority to resolve minor grievances.
9. Authority to resolve minor warranty issues and/or authorize some field repairs to resolve the issues.
Major Organization Interfaces/Interactions:
1. Internally: sales, marketing, drafting, production control, operations, order entry, executive staff, accounting, manufacturing, research & development and administration.

Position Qualifications:
1. Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering (a plus) and or equivalent experience.
2. Minimum of ten (10) years experience in related field.
3. Broad comprehensive knowledge of fundamental technologies.
4. At least three (5) years of progressive senior management experience
